First Post! All it took was a Pandemic…
I finally posted the first page of my webcomic! As you no doubt saw from the title, it took an actual virus to kickstart this thing. When the shutdowns started back in March, all of the projects at my day job got canceled. So I was left with a week out of work with nothing to do… I'm thankful I didn't have to worry about my job beyond that week, but the point is that I was left with a mission to fill up that week with something to do other than nothing.
I feel like I've mentioned this countless times, but I'm fixin' to repeat it anyway. I've been developing (at a snail's pace) a webcomic idea for ages. If I'm honest with myself, I've been developing a "comic idea" for nearly twenty years. Not always the same comic idea, but nonetheless. My brain juggles ideas worth sketching endlessly, yet mountains of scrap paper (sometimes digital scrap paper) get tossed to the side before they even make it to the half-assed attempt phase. I never thought a pandemic would be what I needed to get my first webcomic page posted.
I'm hoping that if you got this far, you already read—or skimmed—over my comic to see how the inspiration took hold. I've been stuck in the "development" phase forever, and it severely crippled my real development. So I decided to go forward with this latest idea and not look back. Meet Davee Bee! He's a wizard. He's an artist. Some might say he's an artistic mage, while others think he may be a magical artiste. The truth is, I'm not entirely sure myself… yet. I tore down a ton of slow progression walls to give myself a fresh look at where I want this comic to go. So I'd like to set some expectations for anyone interested in joining me on this journey.
Firstly, I have no set schedule on when I'll post a new page. Secondly, I don't even know what the over-arching story will be (again… yet). I never intended to start my comic with a story arc, but that's where we're heading for at least the next few pages. I may have plenty of one-off stories and jump into another story arc. I might even do holiday specials! The opportunities are boundless! I should also point out that I still have yet to decide on my comic's final art style; although, I'm enjoying what I've made so far. I've come to terms with the fact that plenty of webcomic artists jump right into their untamed style and finally find it years later. So what gives me the right to deprive potential readers of my growth? Nothing… that's what.
If you liked the first comic, and are intrigued by it's potential, then I hope you'll exercise your deepest patience with me as I attempt to bring you more of the Visual Wizard. See you soon!
